The German Chefs Society (VKD), with its 14.000
members is the most powerful Chefs Society in
Members of the German Chefs Society come from all different fields of the

in their profession and their special field.

Societies (WACS) with 8 million members in 75 member countries.
The history of the German Chefs Society
It began in 1896, when in Frankfurt am Main the Verband der Köche (IVdK)
(Internationals Chefs Society had been founded. At this time this association lobbied for the
legal admission of professional cooking as a trade, the supervison of
apprenticeship by the chambers of trade, the legal prohibition of professional
job placement (this making many chefs looking for a new job dependent on their
financial possibilities) and for a
social security systems as well as a funeral expenses fond for chefs.
The first Internationale Kochkunstausstellung - IKA (International
Culinary Exhibition) had already been but by the IVdK in the year 1900.

Erfurt/Frankfurt am Main. Erfurt in Germany is awaiting its guests for
next year's 22nd IKA / Culinary Olympics. From October 18 to 22, 2008,
the world's best chefs and pastry chefs will gather in Erfurt to show
their expertise and know-how in culinary arts. The international
four-day competition which takes place only every four years is
considered the most important event in this field. And while the
hosting German Chefs Association is looking forward to welcoming
colleagues from more than 35 countries, an extraordinary city promotion
was kicked off.
